They laid there fist set of eggs on Sunday 12-1-12 (Sorry for bad pic.. Side of tank had watermarks and iPhone cam is not the greatest)

They should go free swimming tonight or tomorrow. Watch close and see if they attach. It looks like the parents have moved the wigglers. That's a good sign. Congrats

They are trying to swim tonight. Not enough lift yet. I guess tomorrow.

The mom is an evil sob to the male.

I counter about 250 wiggles give or take. Is that an average sized clutch?

Eggs were not fertilized this time :(

Now the male is being pretty mean to the female. She is in the corner. Should I separate the pair? Should I take the mean male out or the now passive female?

Three is a charm?

They laid eggs this morning once again (1-24-12) I tried moving the flower pots (waiting on Barb's poor arm for a cone) directly into the middle of the tank this time. Last time the male did not fertilize the eggs. I think it may have been a space issue (backseat of car vs a queen size bed). We will see this time.

The egg comparison.....


My first set of eggs were fertilized and the eggs hatched to wigglers. They were eaten once they began to freeswim. Here is a pic of the eggs.

The second set of eggs were not fertilized. For one reason or another. See hypothesis in earlier post On the pic of the eggs notice that everyone has a small white section. Interesting. An early sign?

Looks more like the first set as opposed to the second.

My opinion through the scientific method of investigation (and hope) leads me to believe that they are fertilized this time.

I invite your thought or comments in the testing phase of my hypothesis..............
