What are the best tanks for keeping discus? Wide tanks or taller tanks?

it depends, if you want to breed them wider is better but growout taller is better I think. I'm no expert just my observation

taller only if 18" deep or more then i would go up..

never would i put discus in tanks 12" deep.. i mean, never again.. 55g is worst tank over..

Tall and wide. I prefer 24" wide, 30" tall.

48Lx18wx18h would be my choice. IMO, anything over 18" high is a waste of discus space.

If you wanted a planted tank wide verses taller. LOL tall u need lots of light. If i could id get a wide over tall.

Wide..I'm short and my discus don't use the upper part of a 24" tank 90% of the time anyway. :)

There must be a logical explanation as to why your fish don't use the entire tank. Perhaps the current is strong in the top half of the tank, or perhaps there are other factors. All my Discus use the entire tank, and dozens and dozens I've had in the past have done the same.

Even my tanks with low flow they tend to hang/swim around mid to lower tank...they will come to the top when I get close expecting food but thats about it.

I'm also short and my hand can barely touch the bottom of my 120 gal. but the 24" depth is awesome for aquascaping. can't do much in a 55.
