In what circumstances would one use a salt water dip and what ratio of salt to water? Also i have heard the abb pp on the forum what does pp mean?

As for when, someone else will have to answer that. The things I used to do it for were accepted at the time, but I think they're out of date.

I did use a salt dip recently on some aquatic plants as an extra step to make sure there were no snails.

On just about any ectoparasitic infection you may come across. It is actually the only time salt ought to be used ,a dip or short term bath that is. I would not use PP for anything except disinfection of tanks and equipment. PP is a strong oxidizer that kills bacteria and protozoans. Imagine what it does to the delicate membranes of your discus' gills.
