I want to do a 55 gallon tank with wild discus. It will contain 5 or 6 discus with plenty of wood roots and other pieces of drift wood with a covering of leaves. I am hoping it will be tanin stained. it will also have some abn. Hoping to have a covering of floating plants to diffuse light so it looks pretty much like their natural habita

how about a 90 gallon deep?

more is always better.>

BUT..

deep is from front of glass to back of tank... 18" deep.. 75g/90g are usually 48" w x 18" d

55gallon is 12" deep x 48" wide

I never understood 'deep' as being front to back. I get it, but also I think it should be from top to bottom.

I only have room for a 48" tank. I went with a 120gal. (48x24x24). it's set up as a biotope with only sand and a ton of wood. 24" instead of 18" makes a huge difference. with all the wood and a couple of stumps, my wilds still have plenty of room. for aquascaping, I think a 55 is the worst tank you can have.
