Hello, after a few years in reef aquariums I have decided to get back to Discus. I have a question on tank sizes. I used a standard 55 to raise my Discus, but my LFS has a 60 gallon. The dimensions are 48L X 15W X 17 high. I like the deeper dimensions because after I grow my discus out I would like to have a planted tank which I feel the 15 inch depth would be beneficial. Would this size tank be a good grow out tank for discus? Thanks

you didnt state how many u were growing out. you could run the water level at half capacity..go barebottom to make it easier

I plan to grow out 5-6 discus.

That tank should be fine, but for more ideal conditions in planting the tank after grow-out, a larger tank would of course be more preferential - one that is 18" wide by say, 24" high.

Thanks for the help. Yes I would prefer a 75 gallon, but the wife has put restrictions on the size of the tank.

Since the 60G and 75G are the same length just buy the 75 and tell her it's the 60.

Both my 65, and my 60 are 36", not 48" like a 75..Trying to convince her shorter is longer hasn't worked since the sun came up the first time...

Unfortunately I made the mistake of educating my wife, so that won't work. :)

Word of advise for future reference. If the spouse is not into the hobby, don't educate them. ;)
