OK I have a problem with my favorite female.I am starting to believe she is laying infertile eggs. I have tried her with 2 different males and gotten the same results, the eggs are white. Not turn white, they are white when she lays them. I had thought perhaps a water issue as my water is currently running at 300 tds so I bought an ro. Then I tried a different male, and now I am wondering if she might just be sterile? Any incite would be helpful. Just for background she came from Kenny last Dec (2010) and is around 6" the 2 males Ive tried so far are the same both are 7" or better and I'd guess at least 18 months old. Tds in breeding tanks is around 60.

all eggs layed are infertile until the male fertilizes them.have the males been proven with another female.how many times has ur female spawned and how long b4 the eggs get eaten some more back ground would help.

Yes I realize they are not fertile until the male covers them. lol However I have never seen discus eggs that start out white, all the eggs I have seen are kind of orange and slightly clear. The eggs from this female are white as she's laying them. I do not have any "confirmed males" in that they have successfully spawned. I have 11 adult fish of these 2 are females (I have seen them lay) 2 are males as I have seen them with their tubes fully extended. 2 others I believe are male the rest I have no clue. The female in question has laid 4-6 times in a community setting and maybe 6-8 in a breeding tank. 4-5 times were before I started using RO and with the original male.

i have not seen what u think the prob is b4.not seeing the eggs to me white means eggs not fertilized.when they get fertilized then u get the orange/tint to them.as far as reason eggs are not fertilized there is alot of possibilitys.just start eliminating them 1 at a time. try to prove a male with ur other female and go from there.i wouldnt think anything of the eggs until u know u have a good male.but anything is possible hth

Well I'm not giving up on her yet but it has been kind of discouraging.http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i364/ktdme1963/discus004.jpg

Sound Interesting
IME you have more chances to have problems with the males than with the females. currently I have 4 young females laying eggs almost every week and only one male on these pairs is liable.
+1 on the picture of the eggs if possible as she is laying the string of eggs that way we know how they look as they come out of her reproductive tube.

She laid again today while I was at work so no pics of the spawning. It looks like perhaps 3 good eggs out of 100.

Your water is too hard, cut it with about 75% ro water and 25 % tap. Jerry

3 is better than none which would lead me to believe its not ur female.maybe inexperienced males, to much flow, low sperm count, different breeding surface.keep those 2 together and maybe 3 will turn to 10. 10 will turn to 50.50 will turn to 200.
