Hey guys,

I guess white poo is visiting my tank. One of my Wild is pooing white poo and he isn't eating much. I m thinking about giving a metro a shot but want to double check with ppl on forum first. He is having it for about 2 weeks and i never got a chance to post it here or treat him since i was busy. Will this affect my other discus ? should i treat the whole tank or just him? I only see him with white poo but again i might have couple of fish isn't eating much.

Well, it's not worms! I'd be tempted to try metro and see how it goes, I'd treat the whole tank too.

Is not worm? What could it be? I don't have enough metro for 225g tank hehe ;).

It's faeces, not a worm. Symptoms suggest spironucleus vortens. If you treat in a qt tank it may fix this fish but the others most likely will show signs at some point. End of the day it's your call.

That fish is fat for not eating. I suspect internal bacterial infection. A week's worth of daily WC's in a QT tank may cure him. I would try that before any meds. You'll be suprised what isolation and daily (large) water changes can do for a fish.

Is something like hex the only explanation for white faeces like that? Can it also happen with stress? Attached is one of my guys.

Could be bacterial or other ointernal parasite (e.g. nematodes) as well. Most, if not all, discus carry an ambient load of flagellates, when a fish is stressed the flagellates can get out of hand, common symptoms are the white goopy faeces, darkening and staying away from the rest of the fish, they can also spit out food too.

As Paul already stated, you'll need to treat any and all fish in the same water column, as either way (bacteria or parasites) they are all possibly infected..Metro is far cheaper than new fish. Obviously, Discus need time and attention to thrive..You mentioned a shortage of this..Slow down and rethink how to deal with a large amount of fish, tanks, and issues without enough time. Metro should be the first cours by the look of it..then a break, followed up by antibiotics if still prevalent.

I have had good results treating fish with heat. I used to do it one fish at a time because of other tank mates and size of my tank, but I just decided to try out the heat for the display tank. Someone else did this, and was successful. Could be an option.

YSS - To how high? 92?

95 plus. 96 for 5 to 7 seven days usually get the fish feeling well and eating well again.

Good luck. Some don't care for heat, but I think more than enough have seen good results. Slowly raise the temp, keep it up for 5 to 7 days and slowly bring the temp back down. My 265G tank is at 92 now. My heaters been on not stop for last 24 hours.

I would just add that I would watch the D.O. level if you raise the temperature to 95. Or if you can't monitor it, make sure you have an air stone in the tank. O-2 saturation is 6.9 at 95 degrees F. at sea level in fresh water. Other than the possibility of low D.O. fish usually do well with a heat treat.

I had to abort the whole tank treatment as some of corys started dying. :-( I will have to think of some other ways.
