Wondering what color people are using for the bottom of their tanks. I had ten "Red Covers" in a tank with a light tan bottom and they showed lot's of red. I painted the bottom of the tank dark brown and now my "Red Covers" are so dark and not showing much color at all, in fact they look the same color as the bottom of the tank...very dull :(

Yes , i believe that that the tank bottom/substrate has more effect than the tank background.Darker substrates produce darker coloring. This is according to the various posts that i have read in this forum.I think a lighter tank bottom is preferred to get the most out of your discus.

Thanks everyone, that dark brown is coming off. Can you suggest colors for the bottom of the tank?

Id say VERY light earthtone color.

Depends what you are trying to do. Straight sterile bare bottom type of tank, or are you trying to give the appeal that there is sand or substrate in there? White or a Light Blue would be my choice if going non natural, a very light earthy tone line Bud suggested would be my choice for a more "natural" tank. Maybe an off white that looks sandy, or a light brown.

It makes a huge difference. Here are my red cover x's over pool filter sand and light blue background:
