Rio Atabapo Altum Update Photos

I still have the group of six. I moved them into their own tank with a thin layer of black substrate (Eco-Complete). The substrate really made them color up. In their previous tank with light colored pool filter sand, they seldom showed their black bars as they tried to blend in with the sand. I even see some dark green and red colors forming on the larger ones. Very happy with this group.

My altums had an extremely hard start but they are all healed and starting to come around. good idea with the darker gravel and their stripes, didn't know that.

Thanks, it took me a while to figure that one out. What's good for showing discus does not translate to all other fish. The Altums looked washed out in my discus tank over the pool filter sand. I'm betting if I had a bunch of Maz wood in their with the discus their bars would show. Instead, I moved them to their own tank. I like the black substrate.

I have mine with pool sand and they are always pale. I'm gonna try the darker to see. I like the black too with them. thanks
