I've been talking to this guy near me that posted this discus on craigslist. He wants 125$ for this one and says it's a 5" PENJING LEOPARD.

Think he means Penang and they are not that rare. Plus that fish looks stunted to me.

You can get a lot better Penang for that price.

It's not a bad fish, not sure I would go $125.00 but its probably worth $50.00-$80.00. Ask him how old it is and what size it is (hard to tell from the picture). I like it's pattern (it's a leopard people, not an eruption). It's body shape is a bit off, but that could be due to the fact it's still a juvie.

Thank you for the comment with good feed back, I think I'll just save the money for a better discus.

Owner says 5" and I count 11 bars that I can see. Ive never seen a leopard with that many.

A lot depends on it's age and is it 5" TL or SL. It can be pretty hard making a judgement off of only one picture, and I think the fish tend to get judged as stunted a bit quickly lately. If this fish is 6-8 months old it has potential, if it is 1 1/2 years old, not so much.

Don't see it on that fish

If he's near you, take a trip there.if not for any other reason than to check out his fish and tanks. :)
..but hopefully you'll get a better impression of the fish in person. From the pic alone. I would pass.

Payton it's not a rare fish, does not look to be 5 inches or a Penang Eruption and it looks stunted by looking at the eyes. I would stay away for it, it is nothing more than a Leopard. Come by my house next weekend to look at some other Leopards if you want to compare them.

You have more than 10 NO, and 0 YES for answers ...

None of the fish in those pictures look good at all.

You get a lot more quality for $125.00 buying from Han's or Kenny's.

not all true yes stunted fish not worth 125 but are ur leopards 9 bar or 11 bar.i heard of and read old stuff about 11 bar snake skins.and from what ive seen for sale 11 bars is somewhat rare.not becuase its better but because its been improved on with the 14 bar having even finer thin lines/pattern.so u just dont see them that much anymore.

I bought a 4" eruption leopard from Kenny that has similar markings to that for $58. Also, that doesn't look like a 5" fish to me, if it really is, his shape isn't very good. I've had younger 3-3.5" that had questionable shape and have turned out nicely, but if it's really 5", I woud assume you are stuck with that shape and I wouldn't waste the tank space on that fish regardless of price honestly.

take a look at PE that kenny sold for $115 in feb shipment and they were 5-5.5". Cost aside, this fish is nowhere close to what sponsors sell for simply members.

I would pass on it! Dont just buy it cause the guy close to you. It may be worth a trip to see what he has otherwise but dont buy it out of convienence!

What's more convenient then ordering fish from a sponsor and having fedex deliver the next day to your door?

Definitely I would pass, the fish is stunted and no more room to grow. I would not even pay $5 for it. I believe its a Leopard Eruption which is pretty common.

Oh I agree but its tempting go buy something close out of convienence. We all have done it weather its fish or something else we need or want! But in all Honesty this fish isnt worth $125!

Nah.. I will always prefer to pick up fish in person instead of having it shipped. I would rather drive 2 hours each way and even if it cost me 1/2 a day of work than to risk shipping. Remember, you are at the mercy of the shipping company when the fish is shipped. Seller/Sponsor can do their best is packaging.. it's out of their control when it's shipped.

With that said, I would not recommend the fish in question.

I am not talking about driving 2 hours for that particular fish.

2 hours drive for me is Hans and that's the only way I got my fish from him. Not that I don't trush Hans shipping. If given a choice to avoid shipping, I prefer that route even if it's not cheaper.

Just do like he said ask him,, hopefully he will tell the truth about the age ,, i have been tricked in the past where people tell me that the discus is 3 months old and then when i get him at home you could tell he is stunted and is over 1 year old.,
