Hello all. I was hoping to share pics of my incredible new 4"+5" Hans Discus that we were finally able to introduce to our cycled 90 gallon tank. The fish and the tank look incredible, but I am new to the forum, so have not yet made enough posts to upload any pics. Instead, I will at least get one thread under my belt with this quick intro and a thanks to all who contribute to this forum. There is a wealth of great experiences, information, and enthusiasm for this great hobby. I also need to give a big ole' fist bump to Hans for the incredible Discus and the hospitality he showed in allowing me to see his operation first hand. If you are looking to add Discus to your tank, you cannot go wrong in selecting them from Hans' inventory. I have personally seen his entire selection in almost every size, his filtration, feeding rituals, and care taken in selecting/packaging each fish for mail order that went far beyond my expectations. IMO, you cannot and will not go wrong in choosing Hans for your future purchases. I hope to be able to share pics soon to share with everyone...

Congrats on your new Hans discus...they look gorgeous! I bought my first group of discus from Hans almost a year ago and then a second group last July and have never had a lick of trouble with them. They're HUGE now, bright and beautiful and full of personality.

Have fun with your new fish!

Thanks guys...Callisto, welcome aboard as well! I have 5 x 4" and 3 x 5" doing 50% WC daily for now since I added that bio load all at once. Water levels are fine with the WC and next week I will plan to scale back and test water parameters to determine frequency necessary. They are beautiful and not at all shy. It will be worth your wait!

Gorgeous tank and fish! I recently picked up some from my LFS, they Apparently order from Jack Watley. they look good but I think my dark substrate is causing them to darken :(

:bandana: Beautiful!!! Not to pry but did you purchase & bring home or have them shipped? I'm really torn about the shipping stress & all. Have chkd Hans site as well as Wattley in Florida http://www.wattleydiscus.com/main.htm & Mike at Central Ohio Discus http://www.centralohiodiscus.com/index.htm. I'm just about ready but not sure whether to look close to home or shop long distance. "T"

I have the luxury of picking up my Discus, given I am less than one hour from Hans' fish house. After seeing all of the choices and getting to speak with Hans about his operation and general fish care, I would certainly be willing to drive further if I had to. That said, after seeing the great care he takes in packing his fish for shipment, I would have no concern in ordering from him via next day air if I lived further away. He packs them individually, uses multiple bags with further reinforcement to ensure nothing is punctured, fills each bag with pure oxygen and takes great care in selecting the fish that best meet the specific requests of his customers. I assure you his fish are all very heathy and up for the travel. Think of it this way, how do you think your LFS receive their fish? They all get shipped to the store before re-sale. Order from Hans and cut out the middle man to reduce stress levels. I have not ordered from the other distributors you mentioned, but have only great things to say about Hans. He is truly committed to these fish and providing the highest levels of customer satisfaction. We could not be more happy with our selection who are all very colorful, active, and eating well. I wish you luck with your decision....oh, and I should say I was surprised to find his fish were even more incredible than the pictures on his site suggested.

Thanx much for the info. I'm about 3 1/2 hrs away from Hans. Do you think that's OK? I've never had fish bagged for more than an hr & that included acclimation. The others are definitely too far although I believe DISCUS MADNESS is in Jersey. Another I was chkng is KENNY's DISCUS in Daly City, CA http://kennysdiscus.net/Home_Page.html . I just don't know, maybe overnite ain't so bad. Decisions, decisions. "T"

If you order from any of the mentioned places, don't worry, these folks know how to ship their discus...I've brought fish from all!

If they arrive fine via overnight mail, a 3.5 hour drive would be no problem (for them)...it is only a question if you want to drive that far in order to choose your own fish. I don't think you would be disappointed with mail order and shipping would be no more than your fuel expense. We just got back from his fish store with two Fire Reds. AWESOME....

Great meeting you as well! Lexi and I decided on a Marlboro Red and a Fire Red and both have made great additions to our tank. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your selections...and a trip to his fish room is definately fun and well worth the drive. He is great people! So glad to hear your fish are doing well!
