I have filled out the disease uestionnaire I have found on another post hope i filled it out complete enough for you all to be able to help me.

DISEASE QUESTIONNAIRE

Problem

1. Please explain the problems with your fish/when and how they started

I have a red turquoise, Red dragon, and blue diamond the Red dragon and Red turquoise are new and about 3 days after getting them in the tank all of the discus in the tank started to rub on the plants and the red turquoise started to darken up at night he looks ok but he is almost purple during the day, I have looked on other sites and read some of these posts as well.

2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/ white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds)

I think turning dark, flashing , darting, sometimes hiding but not sure if that is just because from time to time they chase each other, rubbing on plants not all the time but when they start they do it for about 3 to 5 min one or 2 times a day mostly at night right before the lights go off in the tank

3. What medications/ treatments that you have already tried and results. Include dosages and duration of treatment.

The pet store suggested to start API General Cure: Contains (250 mg Metronidazole and 75 mg Praziquantel per pack) using as directed and that is 1 pack for 10 gal of water(treating hole tank incase of flukes finished the second dose today and water change in 2 days

Tank/Water

4. Tank size and age, number and size of fish
55 gal been running for about 5 years 2 2 ½ inch discus, 1 1 ½ inch discus 3 pearl dinos, 1 cardnal, 2 rainbows(forgotten what type they are but they stay smaller 2 inchs)
15 ghost shrimp, 3 birssal nose plecos, 1 albino cory

5. Water change regime/ how long has tank been running/ bare bottom or gravel/ do you age your water?
Once a week I do a 20% water change, tank has been up for 5 years, have gravel, yes I age the water though I don’t think it madders I use RO water and set it up for my plants and fish according to what I have read

6 Parameters and water source;

- temp 84
- ph 6.5
- ammonia reading 0

- nitrite reading 10-20 ppm

- nitrate reading 0

- well water no

- municipal water no

7. Any new fish/plants added recently
Red dragon discus and Red turquoise discus

Do more water change 50% - 80% everyday or every other day. That's the important thing discus keeper should know. Your RO is pretty useless without frequent WC

pearl dinos and cardnals need large groups if you cant cater for them you should give them back to the store

Same with cories, they need to be in shoals of at least 5, but more is better.

You should be doing a lot more water changes than 20% per week especially since you have gravel and not BB, discus need really clean water so I would be vacuuming that gravel daily and doing at least 75% water change daily. You have juvie discus that need to be fed several times per day and that really messes up the water and substrate. Clean water gives them a stronger immune system and also less bacteria/parasites in the water too.

However, I do not know if you are dealing with something that needs medicating or not because I personally have not had to deal with sick discus but, I can say with 100% confidence that doing large daily water changes will help your situation and not doing them will probably be doom for your young discus in the long run. Clean water can often resolve issues and dirty water can often cause issues. Guaranteed.
