Where can I buy one? I read here in SD that most breeders prefer this size tank for breeding. Why is that? Can I have some links where to buy those tanks. Thanks.

Marineland makes one very close to that size. Ive got one and going to get more for my breeders. They are also on sale atm. Just ask a local lfs.

Its a 37g tank dimensions are approx 18"x18"x21" (LxWxH) if that helps any.

That helped a lot. I have a 33g(30"L x 14.5"W x 17.5"H) tank that's housing my pair. Is that a good size or it's not that deep and too long?

The breeding video I saw the other day (listed here on this forum) suggests using 20 gal tanks so
the babies can easily find the parents when feeding. I tried a 46 gal bowfront and twice now
the babies vanished. Now I'm trying smaller tanks and removing the dark items out of the tank.
The person on the video (sorry can't remember name) likes to use 20 gal show (long) tanks.
The 18 inch cubed might be good grow-out tanks, huh?

LOL... I always preferred a 29 gallon tank myself....but I have raised spawns in tanks as big as a 120 and have seen it done in a 250. You think the Amazon is 18 X 18 X 18? Good parents will raise fry regardless of the tank size.

If you were making your own tanks...and a lot of them..... 16X16X16 maximizes your yields from a 4X8 sheet of 1/4" plexiglass...2 tanks per sheet. Yields about 16 gallons of water volume...when considering the actual interior dimensions (15.5,15.5, 15.5). Yes... you need the extra 1/4 to 1/2" buffer at the top.

That's a good point John. I was just wondering if that was the recommended size tank because of what I read here. Thanks.

different people will recommend different things so there is not one recommended size.i would recommend u keep the 33gal as it should work fine or if you want to go smaller try a 20 gal high

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your input. The 33g seems to work. They spawned 4 times already but with no success. Still young and learning(?). Is it better to have a tall or long breeder tank? I have a 29 tall tank that I can also use. Thanks.

i go by the saying if it aint broke dont fix it.so if they are spawning i would leave them alone dont want to have them stop cause they need to get use to a new tank.for smaller tanks tall is better than long .as far as young and still learning try researching meth blue for fungus and ro water to lower tds might help get them over the hump and get some wrigglers gl

Hi Mike,

I'm also asking for future pairs that I get. So, that I know which tank size is better. I already searched MB during spawning and I have some handy(just got them). They don't lay on the cone. They prefer doing it on the glass. The first 2 turned white and the last 2, they ate the eggs. It's hard to cover the eggs with a mesh when the eggs are on the glass. Do you have any suggestion regarding that? Thanks. I use peat...

Also, why is it that taller tanks are better in this case?
