Pls help! I am very new to this. We've had the discus for about a month now and last week, i noticed a white dot on his body which has now grown to the size you see on the picture...would anyone know what it might be and how to treat it? The only things we've added recently are 2 moss balls and 2 cyperus plants.

Terrible photo. Could be an injury with fungal things happening, or could be a bad bacterial issue, but I can't tell from the photo. Perhaps you can get a larger version with better resolution.

I was figuring more like a cut from a filter edge, downtube, or?..usually bite marks just loosen a scale or two at best...either way, you'll need to be treating with an antibio or dye based fungicide..larger photo's happen from off site accounts, photobucket, etc. then the bandwidth isn't being used up here..

as an edit, you should still fill out the form on the sticky part of the page, as other things play in to diagnosis

usually this type of issue is attributed to poor water quality

Looks like small scrape that's gotten worse either by infection or water quality. Either way 50% min WC needs to be done and fish treated (preferably in QT) with 1tablespoon salt/5 gallon concentration and antibiotic such as kanamycin until sore heals.

This is what it looks like to me as well. I have succesfully treated cuts and scrapes like this by first treating the affected area with meth blue by removing the fish and carefully using a Q-tip to dab on some meth blue to the affected area. After a couple of treatments I then switched from meth blue to a triple antibiotic ointment sold at any drug store. Be carefull if you go this route to dab and not rub/smear the affected area. also, as others have metntioned, you need to keep the water quality pristine while treating.
