Hi there,
This is my 1st post, please take it easy. Thank you
Here is my story:

-Bought an established 90 gall tank with 2 fluval canister filters (204 and 205 series) including fishes.
-Decided to build a new stand and light hood , so the tank sit on garage for around 2 weeks with about 2 inch of old water and old gravel.
-completed stand and light hood project, filled tank with tap water and prime.
-Using 2 filters with old water, sponges, bio max media,… all came from the established tank
-After 2 weeks of running without fishes (during that time, water tests is good according to the test from LFS).
-Decided to put 24 tetras (neons, lampeyes, glowlights) to the tank
-Water tests still good after 3 day from LFS.
-Decided to purchase discus
-add 8 discus on 3-10 (2- 5.5 in, 2-4.5 in, 4- 3 to 3.5 in).
-2 days later, water tests still good
-bought 3 more discus size 3 to 3.5 in and add to the tank on 3/14
-all of the fish is happy
-Ammonia is around 4 (test at home on 3/15)
-did 50% water change (always with aged water) in next 3 days. Ammonia came down to 2 and stay there till now.
-still doing 30% water change daily but could not bring down ammonia.
-WC treats with prime and stress zyme +
-All fishes is still healthy and eat like crazy (I spent around 15 bucks a week for frozen beefheart, bloodworm…)
-I feed them 3 times a day
-Water test on 3/19 shows: PH 6.8, ammonia 2.0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0
-Water test on 3/20 shows: PH 7.0, ammonia 2.0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0
-Water test using API freshwater master kit
-Water temp always between 30 to 31C
-fake plants and fake driftwoods as decoration

Please help me to bring down ammonia level
TIA.

welcome to SD. Base on your results 3/19 & 20, it does not look like your tank is fully cycled. you'll need do more wc.
how did you keep your filters when you picked up the tank until set it up?

Thanks for your reply
Filters just sit in a garage with the tanks and they did not running at all until the tank is filled

More WC?
In volume or else?
Thank you

It could have been that the bacteria died if they just sat and there was nothing feeding it so now you are going through the cycling process again and if you dont up the percentage in a WC your going to loose the fish from ammonia poisoning.

daily 50% WC (treats wit prime and stress zyme+) is good enough?
What else I have to do

Add Seachem stability daily.

bacteria is gone. you need to do daily WC (50% is ok) with Prime and Stability ('cause i have not used Stress Zyme, so don't know about it). Make sure you keep an eye on ammonia, if ammonia is high do more than 50% WC. Your test kit will read Nitrite and Nitrate soon and keep do wc until fully cycled.

All of your bacteria is dead. Theres no point in getting cultured if it's just sitting around for two weeks. Your going to have to basically cycle the whole thing. Get some Prime and Safe along with those wcs and you'll be heading in the right direction.

I am using PRIME now.
Do I need to add SAFE on top of PRIME?
Can I just use SAFE or PRIME, not both?
Thank you

OR.. not BOTH.. they are exact same thing.. one is Powder.. other is liquid..

plus water changes..

the Prime/SAFE will make Ammonia NOT deadly to fish.. BUT it still needs to be removed.. so just because you add Safe or Prime does NOT mean you do NOT STOP water change :)

good luck :)

Cool, I never try to stop WC.
I am still doing 30% daily WC. I will increase it to 50% until all ammonia is gone.
Is it sound good?
Thanks for your help.

easy way to think of it is a 50% WC will reduce current ammonia by 50% so if you at 2ppm ammonia in a 10gal tank OR a 200gal tank it will still only reduce it to 1ppm..

I would be doing more like 80-95% wc not 50% if I were you.

It's bacteria seed, to restart your bacteria colony quick.

I only need dose two or three days to make it work.

Prime or Safe is for tap water treatment.

Once your water is clean not milky look, then you know it starts to work.
