every time my discus see myself going near the tank it immediately hides behind the wood and would stay there for hours. any thoughts to help my situation?

I got 2 adults + 3 juveniles in the 4ft tank.

thank you

How about removing the wood for a start so that they can get to know you better... mine starts by hiding in one corner... now comes and swim past me whenever food is offered :)

removing the wood is not possible and my tank is a planted tank

adding some tetras can help, the little fish constant moving and the discus get use to movement. I had somewhat the same issue once but at the time my tank was in a low traffic area of the house, now for years I keep it in the living room I think it helps. also try not to wear any dark cloths when you aproach the tank. hope this is helps.

Add some more fish to the tank it will counteract the shyness........Josie

My guess is that there is a problem with your water quality. Make it easy on us and fill out the form.

I'd do everything everyone else mentioned but also them hiding might mean that they are sick as that is a common symptom. Look into it if nothing else works
