Hello,

I have a 55G aquarium planted. It is pretty deep (about 22 inches deep). I just bought a new light, it is a Full spectrum light 8,000K (17Watt) T8.
Do you know if it will be enough for the plants (they have pretty big leaves), if it is ok fo my discuss?
I do not want to add another unit since i have no space for it. Also, it is a pretty blue light even though they say it is a daylight, do you know why?
Thanks a lot for your help!:D

17W's is is not very much light for plants. I have two 96W 10,000K compact fluorescent lamps on my 65 gallon (deep) tank. What kind of plants do you have in your tank? Some require more light than others.

I don't find the light bothers my domestic discus. Wilds may be a different story. I also have my lights come on in three phases so the fish are not shocked by a sudden burst of light.

If you want to be successful with plants you may want to add more light.

17watts is too little for a tank that size unless you're planting stuff that doesn't require much light like java fern/anubias/etc.
