Have you not changed the water in forever or is it pure RO? If its pure RO you should start mixing tap. Yes you need to bring it up but do it slowly so you dont burn your fish

I would check the water with a chemical test kit first just in case your device has gone haywire... If the reading is consistent with your device then I would make changes to the water.

Thanks guys......i do not use RO water.........plus normal liquid test kits cannot read under Ph 6......my 125 gallons display tank ....routine is 40% 50 % water changes daily with 24 hrs aged water.

Something does not seem right here. If you are doing daily water changes with tap water, you should not have a ph crash like that.
Double check the caliberation of that ph meter. What is the ph out of the tap? Is there anything else you failed to tell us about the tank?

Francis,
Just add a small handfull of crushed coral in a nylon mess and place it in your AquaClear Filter, the ph will be back up to normal.
I have my water ph crashing when the city is working on the water line.

Crushed coral takes to long to be of help. Theres a more immediate problem we havnt found yet

Hi Derek.......no sure what you meant more immediate problems that not found yet......very low Ph and parasites/bacteria cannot not survive in the discus tank......I am trying to bring the Ph higher so i may breed them soon......how to buffer the water?

Thanks Cliff for the advice.....I have both crushed corals and aragonate sand at home now.....which one is better to use in the HOB filter?....hope to hear from you soon.

Well aragonite of course...lol.
Add a bit of Epsom salt and salt and a bit of aragonite.
Vancouvers water is ro water out of the tap.
They aren't stressed at all. Swimming normally...relaxed. But I'd get it up incase it dives further.

Francis,
I would agree with April, since you already have the aragonate, an handfull will last for around 6 months. Your water may have a low carbonate reading
that is why the ph is falling so quickly.

If you're source water is like RO, you might want to check to see if your KH/TDS level and maybe use Kent's RO Right to buffer. One kilo lasts me 6+ months with about 3tbls/125G. I use it with my filtered RO water that has aged 48hrs and he keeps levels in check for me. Just one option to offer.

Good luck my friend!

You can use the Hagen wide range ph test and it will measure from 4 to 9. If your changing that much water daily your meter may not be calibrated accurately to be reading that low so quickly.

Cliff was onto the issue but to clarify the real issue isnt the ph being low it was likely the kh/gh being low or zero thus causing the ph swing. The coral should help as they stated on a long term basis

Hi Francis, glad you have solved your KH buffering issue. These guys sure are nice. How old are they now?
