ok i found some wood id like to put in my tank from the reptile section in my LFS. its a piece of cherry wood or cherry tree branch or something. looks pretty good. but once i got it into my tank. a day later it has grown some white booger lookin stuff all over it. not sure what to do about that.. plus it floats. but i figured it can stay in my empty tank for a few days and it should sink.

let me know please.

Had the same happen with my manzanita.Its like a mold and went away after awhile.Also better plan on more then a few days before your branch will sink.I'd weight it down and give it atleast 2-3 weeks.

Cherry is a pretty resinous wood (woodworking is another expensive hobby of mine :) ). However, it should be OK after soaking for quite a while. I would submerge it in a plastic trashcan. Put about a quarter-cup of bleach per 5 gallons and rub it down from time to time to get the surface excretions cleaned off. I would give it 30 days like this, the last week in non-bleach water. Should be fine after.
