I have a Leopard male and a altum carnation female. They have spawned many times and always the eggs get ate. I know they can produce wigglers because a couple times I put the eggs in a floating container with air and get wigglers but I don't have the time needed to raise fish so early in development. 2 spawns ago I noticed my male and female fighting around the cone. This hasn't happened before. The female won't let the male close to the eggs. They were mouth fighting and tail whipping so I removed the male and the eggs slowly disappeared anyway. I did have a heck of a time getting the male out so I figured I freaked out the female. This time I waited a day and put a guard over the cone and left the male in. They should have wigglers soon and both parents are dark. The male sits on the oppisite side of the cone and acts like he is caring for the eggs. Blowing water and moving around like a gentle father but if he gets to close to the eggs she body blocks him and nips him away.
I'm sure somebody has had this before and I'm wondering if they have a chance to become actual parents. They are both well over year old and like I said have had many many spawns.
I invite coments, advice even opinions on what I should do.

Sure they have a chance. IMO, your better to remove the female and let the male care for the eggs/wigglers as he is almost always the better parent.

They are both picking up the ones who get loose and blow them toward the others one the cone.

When do you normally remove the guard from the cone?

That depends on the parents. It won't hurt a thing to leave it on till they are all freeswimming. Then remove the cone and all to decrease the urge to spawn again. I lighten up on the water changes till they are attached ( smaller, more frequent, slower).

Well I have fry swimming with the parents.... Seems I've been waiting forever. It was really amazing to watch the different steps and moods these fish go through...
