well I have another pairing.....one of the BSS/BS laid eggs on the manzanita & causing chaos in the tank dynamics.
however I captured the male CL making passes over the eggs - VERY cool to see. I'm sure it's no "new news" to most members here, but I thought I'd share :).
(I really need a new camera though, my ancient digi didn't do a very good job with it!)

I don't need this right now though :(, one of the group just hides in terror & isn't doing so well.......
ah well.

Isn't it just crazy when you want your fish to spawn, but at the same time, you don't want them to spawn?

I had one that was constantly terrorized by the rest of the group. No one would let him eat. I was sure he would not make it. I gave him a better hiding place that only he fit into. Coincidentally, quite a bit of food would make its way to his area. After getting a little extra nourishment for a while, he managed to get the strength and courage to fight back and actually won a female for the weekend. After that, he has continued to remain stronger than before. He is now not so low in rank. And no longer hides. Mind you that this took a good month or so to happen. I also realized that he would eat food that the others did not want.

I rearranged my filters to give her a better space to hide :)
(btw you can just barely see her in the vid, hiding in the back corner to the right)

thanks nabilb, fredfry & Joker43!

Yeah. I did see her in the video. Poor kid. That's just how mine was. I hope she pulls through.

THat is interesting. It appears that your male waited for the female to lay all of the eggs before fertilizing. Is that true? I am just learning their mating patterns and I thought the female would lay a row of eggs followed by a male fertilizing pass but it seems that your laid all eggs followed by his pass.

Is this true and common?

that's a good question. I'm a complete *newbie* to all thing "reproductive" regarding Discus, I'd love to know if this is true. btw this spawning was unsuccessful, after 3 days most of the eggs turned white then disappeared on the 4th day. much to my relief actually, as things have settled down in the tank & my 'poorly' little female who was hiding is doing better now!
