I could see using the Coral Isle.

JMO...ive used krylon spray paint and regular ol' roll on latex. Use the roll on latex....so much easier to put on. So so so so much easier to take off. after a while that spray paint really takes some work.

Ive never thought of using a pastel color. any body have any pics of their tanks?

Keith, this tank was still being talked about when I first joined simply. There was another one too but couldn't remember which one, sucks getting old.

Have used those Krylon spray paints in the past......used two cans for just a 20 gallons breeding tank........paint a tank....use paint rollers......imagine using Krylon spray paint for a 120 gallons tank( the cost for those spray paints)lol.

Wow- you should do that Watermelon. It's bad azz...

I love the Raspberry idea. I always do black but maybe it's time for a feminine tank. :)

Pat, you took the words right out of my mouth. I still love the watermelon tank. And, yes, it does suck. I hate not remembering.

I have seen a couple of tanks with yellow. I think one was on YouTube. Sorry, can't remember. :)

Ok. Try searching "finalmente mangiano" on YouTube. You should see a tank with wilds and a yellow background. I think it's gorgeous. I also saw a couple of amazon videos with a prevailing yellow to greenish heu in the background.

Totally agree with Pat, given the type of discus you have on the pictures, this color would be awesome in making sure they are the accent and not the color of the tank.

Here is a pair of my discus in a tank painted with a color similar to what Pat was recommending.

Jorge, that is gorgeous. Also like your picture above.

Here is an example Jorge of the fish are not blending into the background. I know blue but...

Indeed the blue is too strong, it has to be a very soft and light blue so the discus is the highlight. Soft enough to make the striations strong and vivid. Gosh I really like the wild in this picture, is it yours Pat?

It was Jorge, after my very first group of wilds last year I received this one and another Uatuma Blue. I lost this one :( in the "Very Suddenly Sick" fiasco.

You are welcome Anik, I actually did post this with my ipad. It was not easy but doable. Press and hold the text until the little bubble appears then press Copy. You will need to move the little blue handles until you have the text of interest then repeat to paste where ever you want it. The little blue handles are tricky and annoying.

Lol. I will have to try it next time with a cup of coffee in hand and definitely earlier in the day. :p

Hi Pat....just curious....how many cans to spray 63 gallons tank (4 sides).....thinking re spraying my 40 gallons tanks.

Second Hand Pat
04-25-2012, 08:47 PM
No clue Francis. I have not painted any of my tanks. Figuring out of square footage should not be too hard on the tank. The coverage on the can should be listed. 40 is 36 in x 18 in and 14 in tall I think.

What kind do you use there are so many different brands of krylon? Do you use the one for plastic

mhx
04-25-2012, 08:57 PM
3-4 cans indoor/outdoor paint
http://www.krylon.com/products/indooroutdoor_paint/

You can always return unused cans, get 1 extra. Plus I always put 3 coats of polyurethane on top.. make its last

You didnt put enough coats on.

Thin/light coats.. takes time to do it right

Looks like you did even tape your edges

seanyuki

Lol.....I did the taping b4 spraying the tank.......almost used two cans for a 20 gallons cube tank.....perhaps you can display yr tank using Krylon .....hope to learn from you.

your color choice is too light too

Look at this thread, its krylon: http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?74066-210g-Watermelon-discus-display-tank-pics...&highlight=watermelon+210

If your going to paint the sides you need to use a dark color or put a lot more coats on

seanyuki

My question for you....have use Krylon paint for discus......the color I chose is beige or white for breeding albino discus.....perhaps you could enlighten me the right colors for background for breeding albinos.

Francis for Albinos you do need very light colors, if not they will go to the paint and not the parents. I think it looks fine. Maybe one more coat to even things out, once water is inside you'll never know the difference.

your doing great.

from inside the tank its darker looking cause its mixing w the glass which has a small greenish tint. hard to get pics from the front will all the masking and crappy lighting right now

i cant wait to get it inside the house

waiting 15-20min per coat takes 4ever.. but its the key to a good sprayed paint job on a tank... light coats and many of them. i am doing about 6 coats per can... ive sprayed 4 tanks now, so ive got this down.
