While moving my wild's 240 gal. today from our old house to the new one, we had a little accident with it, and smashed out the bottom, not 20' from it's final resting spot. Yeah, it's glass, and 1/2" thick at that. Of course I want to have it repaired, but with the new house expenses now, it's not priority #1. For now, the wilds will just have to be split up in smaller, spare tanks. I was just sick! I've had that tank for about a decade. Damn! Sorry, just venting a little with people who possibly could understand what it feels like. :(

Ouch, that really stinks. One of my tanks is an old 100 gallon that I bought used about 30 years ago. I get what you mean, I'd be upset if I busted that one.

In time buddy...you will get it re-sealed.
How did your wilds take when you broke the news?

:(Wow Darrel that"s a shame, and a 240 to boot. I cracked the bottom in a 90 gal once and it made me sick.
I had fish in it and it flooded my apt pretty good. Good thing that I was on the ground floor. LOL What happened is I got a new under gravel heater pad and laid it right on the bottom and put sand on top. Later I read that I was supposed to put a layer of sand between the bottom and heater pad. I was able to repair it with a piece of glass siliconed to the bottom overlapping the crack by 6" or so. You will get it fixed and this will be behind you but it is something you will never forget.
Good luck Darrel.

Damn Darrell, that truly hurts. I can identify with how you feel. I love my 230 and wouldn't trade it for anything. Congrats on the new house but sorry about the tank. :(

I used to deliver tanks for my buddys lfs and It was nerve racking moving tanks that are that big. Well look at it as maybe a bigger tank in the future?

Damn darrel that cuts deep, especially because it was 20' from its resting spot. I'm sorry to hear about that and I feel for you buddy, those tanks are incredibly heavy. I just moved a 110 into my room and about died. I wonder how I'll ever take it out, I certainly won't be moving anytime soon lol. A 240 must be hell, just taking it to be remade will be a pain. Thats really tough with having the new house and expenses, best of of luck having the time to deal with your tank problem.

Sorry to hear Darrel, I would be in a panic. At least the fish weren't in it at the time.

Thanks guys! I don't really know what I'm going to do with it, since it weighs a few hundred pounds, and no one wants to repair it, not even the company that built it. I think it can be repaired with a couple of patches, but I really don't want to mess with it. A couple hundred gals. of water makes quite a mess if it leaks. I may just give it away, if any one wants it. I don't think I'll get another glass tank that large. I love glass tanks, but over about 150 gals., they are just too damn heavy, and I'm getting too damn old! I may go acrylic next, new or used, if I can save up the cash, or else stick with 150s.
