So I have been searching for a perfect mate for my favorite discus my F1 Alenquer. Turns out she is a he.

Just received a female from John and Winston Lau. It is an Altum Flora.

I paired her as planned with my Male F1 Alenquer.

The goal is to increase the striations in the F1 Alenquer offspring.

When I bred a non-striated Alenquer cross (F1) to a blue turq, I got most solid browns with some Turqs mixed in. I didn't get any Alenquer type fish with striations. Maybe your results will be different seeing how your alenquer has striations to begin with.

I was thinking the striations in the F1 would increase the chances of striated offspring when crossed to a striated mate. WhT do you think Rick?

Did you inbreed the F1? If so what did the F2 look like?

I choose not to work with the F1's as it was not what I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, your results could be completely different.

I'll definitely keep everyone who has a genuine interest posted in the development.

Rick does your inclination tell you that some of the F1 offspring will have enhanced striations? Or do you think I will get half Brown and half Turquoise?

It's almost impossible to say as thier are several variables at play. First of all would be the genetics of your alenquer compared to mine. They could have been siblings in which case their gentics would be somewhat simular, or they could be from completely different cross's altogether. If I had to guess I would say nearly 50% would be solids and 25% would look like a turq with the other 25% looking something like you want. They will most likely take some time to develope (color/pattern) as well, so don't loose heart early on.

I agree Rick. I am expecting 25 percent. Then should I inbreed the desirable F1 x F1. Or breed back the desired F1 to one of the parents?

Either/or....... depending on the outcome of the F1's compared to what you are trying to achieve.
