I've got 10 Stendker Snakeskins when they were 2 months old. That was 14 moths ago.
7 of them become proper 14 bars snakeskins
73366
and 3 are 9 bars throwbacks
73367
73368
They all are siblings from the same batch. And they are very beautiful fish.
Are they called Turqs?
What would happen if 14 bards one pairs up with 9 bars?
The other thing, i have them all in 70g tank. Water quality is good, regular WC etc etc, but would the size of tank limit the size of fish?
the parents were huge about 8" fish
Cheers!

I would call them Turqs. If you cross a Turq and Snake you will get a mix of results. I have done with cross with a Heckel and a Penang Eruption and had these results. 50% will be 14/Snake and 50% will be Turq based. The tank size within reason will not limit their growth. Sometimes you will have fewer battles in a slightly crowded tank.

Thanks Jim!
That's right- they push each other but I never seen a proper battle

Yup, Turqs and I think they would make great pairings with the SS. I would rather have a pair of the mixed vs a pair of SS.

Explain why please!

There is a thought by some that a SS x SS pairing will result in about 25% of the batch dying shortly after going free swimming. Several long time discus keepers have talked about this. There is more about it here on the third page.

+1 sometimes referred to as the lethal gene.

Please forgive me for jacking the thread - I dont want to do that but as I was reading I felt this was a perfect time to get a long time question answered since you guys are on the subject.
I once bred two Red Spotted Discus (not the wild Red Spotted Greens) and the fry never grew past 3/4". I had lots of fry - awesome spawn. Daily water changes and plenty of bhrine shrimp - they ate well, nevertheless they just would not grow! I was very disapointed and thought it was me but reading about the SS pairing comment has me thinking....

So is that same rule applied to breeding rep spotted pairs as well?

No difference by pan or artifically raising but yes by parental raised, shortly after free swimming death rate could be either from SS and non SS.
