Hi, I managed to get some photos and videos using a microscope from my discus who just passed away. I had tried many treatments with him and was unsuccessful in keeping him alive. I still have three other discus who I would like to cure based on the analysis from these reading.

I would request your expertise to help me identify the parasites present. The samples were taken from the gills and well as from the body. Your opinion on the parasites plus successive treatment would really help me save the lives of the other discus.

Thanks for your time.

posting the magnification would go along ways towards helping identify things.

Sorry, it was done quickly at a friends place. I don't have this information.

Doesn't look like anything much. Nothing sticks out to me, aside from a ciliate in the second photo, which isn't an issue.

Eddie, what about the video clips. Wouldn't you say Chilodonella?

Did your fish have chilo symptoms? If so, its possible.

Yes, they do. I'm thinking of trying Cupramine from Seachem or Ich Guard/ Clear from Jungle Lab. I also have Contraspot by TetraMedica in my cabinet but I've read that MG is harmful for pregnant ladies when inhaled in the room.

P.S. My wife is expecting.

I'd use PP, if you know how to use it.

No Eddie, I've never used it before and I would be a bit concerned on how to use it. I have a 30 Litre QT tank that I could use and the closest I can get to PP is Jungle Labs Clear Water. Any advice?

Also do you not recommend using Copper?

looks typical aquatic detritus eaters to me. the video looks like tetrahymena. the photos, the second looks like a Oligochaeta , second round worm, post #2 little copod type critter. need to scrape the discus or get fresh feces for good samples

I haven't used copper and the PP thing, is better through OJT or if someone walks you through it with very specific instructions. How about Quick Cure, its Formalin & Malachite Green?

Quick Cure is not available here. Tetra Medica ContraSpot which I have has Formalin 3.2g; Malachite Green Carbinol Hydrochloride 7.880mg per 100ml. Would this be effective enough? At this stage I'm assuming Chilodonella and Ichthyobodo parasites!

Wow, am I in trouble?

Wow, am I in trouble? Not at all, shows a working system. what comes directly from the fresh feces and fish body are little more to be concerned about. most times when I get new fish I will do pp,qc,formalin, salt dip etc (whichever I feel the need for) to knock down possible microbe #'s so the fish can acclimate easier and be ahead of the game. after that, it's a matter of keeping the tank vacuumed and water clean and things,(system) will usually balance out.

Jim, roundworms don't belong in a healthy aquaria, right?
