So i checked my ph today, which i haven't in a while thinking my water dept would keep in farely consistant. Boy was i wrong! I used to be around 7.2-7.6 i tested it today with my regular range api test kit, too high for that. Then i tested with the high range test kit, too high still! I called the water dept and they said it's usually around 8-8.4 which is still at the top of the epa's reccomendation of ph for drinking water. That test goes to 8.8 and this stuff was DARK purple. What do you reccomend? write a letter to the local news saying something that the ph is higher than the reccomendation of the epa? that might get a quick fix lol or do i just treat with ph down everyday and send the water company a bill? lol

How are the fish? If they are doing well maybe there is no need to alter the pH?

As long as the ph is stable your fish will be OK. My ph out of the well is 8.4. All of my fish are in this water and have been so for the past 10 years.

Brandon, high ph's are the norm in Iowa. Mine comes out of the tap 8.4-8.6 with tds around 280-300. The only time this causes any problems is getting eggs to hatch.

Don't use chemiclals. The fish have adapted. Don't worry. Everything is fine.

Noticed my male of me breeding pair is startin to become heavily peppered on his face. In the other thank my smallest(a leopard aprox. 3in) is starting to darken and has slowed down in movement.

Well then, worry if you must. Use pH down if you think it's the right thing to do. You saw no problems with these fish until you tested your pH. The pH didn't drop over night. If you have a problem now, there was a problem beforehand that you neglected to mention.

I just noticed the peppering on them today so I tested. The city is doing water main work up the street. Like ripping out a whole length of a block so, I'm thinking this might be the cause of it.
I don't think using chemicals is right. I haven't used them yet.

Wow that's crazy man, I think you should write a letter lol. My pH stays around 7.5 here. I'm not sure where our water is sourced from though.

It happened to me a few months ago.. water has been stable for so long I just got lazy.. They were tearing up the road and messing with the water pipes in the neighborhood. the next day after aging the water, when I changed water all my fish turned really dark.. I never tested the water, but now I think I should have.

Did a 80% on the breeding tank and a 50 on my other tank. Tested and things went back to normal. Weird!

the ro unit will not drop your ph but i will make your ph unstable so you can adjust it easy with some almond leaves, peat or similar.

My Ph is regularly that high with no issues. I will say the one time I tried to lower my Ph I fried 6 gorgeous adults. Never again. Dont jack with your ph imo.
