Few questions

Hi all, I've been offered a brand new 55 gallon tank along with a brand new fluval 305 filter for 200. Now if I take this deal I was planning on setting it up with pool filter sand and some wood from manzman so the tank would be relatively open and bare if you will. How many discus would be capable in this tank? I was considering an adult pair and a school of neons. I guess what I'm asking is how do the numbers with discus work? I've read 3 5 6 2 I just don't understand I guess

The least amount together is 4 to spread out the aggression unless u buy a maybe or confirmed pair. If u plan to raise till full grown in the 55, five or six discus.

So you're saying raise the 5 or six and keep them all?

U can put 10 two inch fish doing plenty of water changes and get rid of 4 or 5, that are not growing as well. This way u end up with 5 or 6 full grown, the best of the 10, in the 55 gallon.
Buy quality fish. Plenty of water changes and good food.

Buy adults for your first discus. Alot less hassle and more forgiving as you learn. And 5 would work ok for the tank.
