Received 4 green checkerboards today, all seamed healthy. There ph was around 6.8 and mine is 7.8 so it was about 1:45 min before i was able to put them in there new home. The light was left off and seem to be doing great, except a little jumpy. I will try feeding tomorrow.

Funny I knew exactly what you were talking about, random "liveaquaria" strain that really is a flachen/turq of some type, which is easily seen when it grows older. The ONLY advantage to liveaquaria is their 14 day guarantee, that said, the knowledgable sponsors on here dont really need one and if there was a problem that wasnt caused by you my guess is a majority of these sponsors would take care of you. Those discus are "mass bred" discus that lack a lot of shape and such by comparison to what you will find from the sponsors on this site who are bringing in the best the world market has to offer in most cases. Something to think about, not to mention you could pay about 300 dollars and have six fish that are larger, better raised, and healthier than the ones you recieved. The two runts that I STILL own in my 4 tanks are both from liveaquaria.... glory be.... (I will grant you that they were also some of my first discus so I was by no means the perfect owner to them)

And as everybody said so far, you were bringing up the Ph, you could have taken those suckers out of the bag and plopped them in the tank and it actually may have been better for them overall. If you were dropping Ph it would be a different story. Also, I want to make sure to dispell the myth that discus NEED acidic water, my discus pair off and start to breed in a Ph of 8.2, I wont lower that Ph until Im ready to raise fry. These are domestic discus, years and years of domestic breeding, their natural environment should not necessarily need to be replicated in the home aquarium. JMO... well some of it, other parts are not so arguable

thanks Drew for the advice. I'm growing out all of my Philippine Blue Angelfish in the big tank to eventually sell, and after that will be getting more discus for the tank. I'm from Wisconsin and would like to visit local breeders somewhat close to my location to see there discus in person.

Love Checkerboards. Kenny, a sponsor here, always has the best ones! They are vibrant and eat like pigs!

These arent the checkerboards your thinking of moon, like I said its some sort of flachen/turq mix, Ive yet to see an imported or breeder bring in anything similar to what this strain is. Its basically a red turq but the turq is greener than it is turquoise. They dont look bad but they arent my favorite and lack the shape we get from our importers/breeders off of here.

Had to put a divider in, have one that won't leave the others alone. They are not eating yet, but think it was due to that one, and the others are looking for food on the bottom now that i put the divider in. Should i have put the divider in?

8' x 3' x 3', I know that calculates out to be around 500g but the rep said it was 460g, maybe due to the over flows, dont know. I also have a 80g sump down bellow. Tank is lit by Led's and working on sky light to add to it. I heat the tank with my outside wood stove. Just trying to save extra costs every month.

Was thinking of sea horses, Salt water is way to expensive for that size of tank for me. I'm sure Discus wont be cheap either, but willing to try. I love there beauty and size they get.

I would increase the numbers to spread the aggression, you will always have a low man on the totem pole but this will make it less significant. Just a recommendation.

Thanks, found that out, that's why I received 10 more from Martha. The thing I'm worried about is the size difference compared to the one's I currently have, and mixing them in together. Most of the new Discus are about 1" smaller than the ones I have now.

That'd right I read that sorry :) in my opinion I wouldn't worry about it too much, they are all juvies and especially the size of the new ones will grow really fast with good water and a good feeding schedule.

If the Discus in the pics are from LiveAquaria they look pretty good. No torn fins and good shape. Seem pretty healthy.
