So I did my first bh mix today and add some garlic that contain citric acid(about 1/4 teaspoon in 3+ pounds). My question is it safe if discus eat bh with citric acid in it, Or should I throw this batch away and make a new one?

Ive always cut my own garlic or bought garlic oil with no additives, but im not sure if it is harmful or not. I was trying to avoid phosphoric acid at the time...

Such a small amount won't be a problem. Lots of fish are fed slices of orange, that is citric acid.

Note that there's no evidence processed garlic has any beneficial effects. The original Wattley studies involved fresh garlic, in quantities up to 50% of the food. Jack will tell you that lower levels have no impact.

citric acid is only used as a preservative and will not hurt anything.

Never tried it before, always went with fresh crushed. Are there any additives in the paste?

I know you can buy pastes and diced garlic that are free of any additives. I've never used them for discus but have for cooking. Fresh is always better as far as I'm concerned. I'll have to add some to my next mix.

I use four cloves for every 1lb of beefheart, haven't had any problems yet...
