Would bite the tails off my cardinal tetras? I startes with 35 tetras and the discus has now bitten the tails off 14 of them. I have moved the tetras to a qt for now. I was afraid they would all be dead by morning if I didn't.

What size are your discus? How often do you feed? They might be looking for a little something extra :)

They are 4 1/2 inches and are fed twice a day. I think it is just the largest at 5 inches that seems to be doing it.

that happen a lot with my adult domestic and wild discus. started with 50 cardinals for each tank and only have around 20 per tank now. :)

He's bitting the tails because he's slow.A litle faster and no cardinals.

Yup. Twice a day isn't enough for juvies that size. I have 8 juvies ranging between 3" - 4.5" and feed them at least 6 times a day with hi protein foods. I also have a dozen Cardinal that range from 3/4 of an inch to an inch and a half that are still alive because the Discus have full bellies and easier foods to eat at all times.
