Im getting 6 3" forrest giant blue discus tomorrow and i just wanted to post my setup to make sure i have everything squared away before i get them

Tank: 30g long BB, im already starting to look around for a 75g to upgrade to
Filter: Emperor 400
Heater: Visi-therm 150w
Temp: 84 F
Food: Tetra bits, Super beef heart flake, frozen blood worms

My work schedule will only allow me to feed them 3 times a day (8am, 7pm, 11pm) will that be alright or should i get an auto feeder?? on my days off (sat & sun) should i do 4-6 feedings?? I also plan to do every other day 50% water changes with aged water is that sufficent?? How fast do these guys grow and how long do i have till i need to upgrade from the 30g??

thanks,
Ken

I'm fairly new to discus myself, but I would love to see a picture of your tank :)

I might change the temp up a bit personally. I keep my red turq juvies in 86F. Sounds good though :) Good luck. Definitly upgrade tank size soon though.

I think your heater is a little on the small side.

it doesnt seem to have any issues maintaining 84 F and it doesnt run all day, im sure it will heat up to 86 F with no problems either

ok will do, how long does the every day wc's need to be done??

up the wc change % if you can. when i had six 3 inchers in a 29g, i fed 6 times a day and did 30% wc twice a day, and the nitrate was still kinda high, ~ 15ppm.

So 60-75% would be better

Up temp to 86
50% wc daily
Add a sponge filter to the set up, later you can also use it to cycle your 75g tank
Good luck.

Why a sponge filter?? Is the emperor not enough, I wont need to cycle the 75 I'm just going to move the emperor over and ill be instantly cycled
