if you have driftwood.. they will leave white spots that cant be cleaned. I didnt go with them because of this reason.

I do have drift wood. What do you mean white spots that can't be cleaned? Eggs left that can't be removed? I have no plecos. Is there anything else you would recommend if you don't like these? I don't want anything that gets very big or that would be harmful to my discus or rams. Thank you for your help.

I have several nerite snails. They leave eggs all over the place. Of course they don't hatch but, are kind of difficult to remove. I won't be getting any more of them. I have some rabbitt snails that are very cool! But, my favorite for cleaning the tank are bristle nose plecos!! They only get to 3 or 4 inches, from what I'm told and they do an amazing job cleaning the tank.

I keep finding them on the floor. They get out where my HOB is! I throw them back in the tank and most of time they are still alive.

Stay away from them if you don't like the pokeadot look.

If you have an algae problem you need to treat the root cause, usually is the lighting.

Yes they are the best for algae hands down, and they do go to the top and just above the water every few days i count them to make sure they are all there. Mine are with BN and discus and do just fine and they come in a few different patterns.

You guys/gals are a riot. I don't have an algae bloom :) I just like a REALLY clean tank and don't want green stuff or brown stuff growing anywhere :) I'm a bit anal I suppose :) What does concern me is I have the built in wet/dry filter system. I'm afraid snails or plecos will crawl over the top and into that area. I don't think they can get hurt there though??? My top is very well covered so no way they could get out. Maybe I don't need any at all, but I do have two large rocks, 26 lbs each in my tank that I obviously don't want to remove often to clean. Wo what do the experts say? thank you

Nitrite snails can, and do sometimes reproduce in non brackish water. My tank is proof. They will increase in population as long as there is something they want to eat. When the food is done, so are they, they die off, and only what can be feed will remain. They do not eat plants, but love algae, love it.
They are just fine with the eggs too. The eggs either hatch or just disappear.

I was just going to ask this question. I've used these guys before in my African Cichild tank and they work great. Just had an algae bloom in my new discus set up so was thinking of adding a few of these. Nice to know they're ok with the discus.
