I love my discus but there is something who drive me crazy and Iam very scared about in my beautiful tank the hardness killing me,I check my RO water it's fine and in the tank the GH is 275 and the KH is 300 I do all i can.guys my question is 1-can discus live in hard water? 2-how come they laid eggs in the hard water and they hatch?3-how can I make them grow fast? thanks in advance everyone.
Domestic can live happily and spawn in hard water. The hatch rate of the eggs will be small. I raise all mine in hard water. Soft (RO) water is used just for the breeders.

Hi Moon ,you mean they will grow in hard water(they are domestic)
Yes. It is best for bone development.

what about my breeding tank I set it up a month and half ago the eggs never hatch is the same fish who have fry in my community tank, the water parameter is fine just the tds I dont know.
The eggs may not have been fertilized by the male. Did you watch them spawn?
You do need a lot of patience breeding discus.

Water hardnes will prevent the eggs from hatching. to raise spawn of fry i place my pair in a 29 gal 75% ro 25% tap. AS soon as the fry attaches i only use tap from that point on. My tap is ph 8.2 kh 200/300

to your question Moon yes they are male and female, I TOLD you the eggs hatch in my community tank when I put them in the breeding tank the eggs never hatch
Are water parameters in your breeding tank the same as your community tank? It could be that the male is not fertilising the eggs. Hang in there it will happen. Good Luck!

no it's not the same parameters ,I used RO in the breeding tank, and I used RO mix with tap in the community tank.

Use the same mix in the breeding tank and as soon as they are done do a partial water change with R/O. Or just do what works in the other tank if you are getting wigglers. Why try to make them conform to what you or the rest of us think the parameters should be.

Theres no way the gh/kh are 275/300. That would be like having dirt in your tank

So your breeding tank if the TDS value is 47 is very soft. That's not bad. Most breeders try to get it around 70-80. If you get too low you can have Ph crashes or osmotic stress. Try to set your mix so your tds is around 70-80 in your breeding tank and see what happens.

If your tap is 187 and your ro is 47.....how did your community get to 350? Do you never do water changes and just top offs?

I do a water change every week I remove 25% and replace it with RO since I add a kind of soil in my tank I start getting that probleme eith my water in my community tank.

Well at any rate i have no clue what the problem is. There doesnt seem to be one as far as i can see. Your discus had fry in water with a tds of 350 and now are in a breeder tank with RO and the eggs keep becoming overcome with fungus? It was already explained how to help prevent that. Im not sure what the problem is. I think you just need some patients
