I use a 100g cattle tank to age my water with one 300 watt heater and use a 280gph? Sump to circulate it. Since me vacation it won't hold temp. I added a second heater (300) to help the situation with no success. I have to refill every 2 days. If played with heater and pump placement thus far. Any other suggestions?

is there a lid? even with my garbage can if i put a lid on it it heats up much faster. any reason you don't try to fill it with water a little closer to ideal temp? my heater in my barrel is rated for a 30gal tank, my barrel holds 50 gallons and is made of plastic. but after refilling it my temp usually hits about 80 deg. then my heater only has to raise it another 6 degrees

I have a 60g barrel with lid a 300watt heater and an airstone. I use almost all of the water everyday and water temp is always between 85-86F. Lid helps a lot to hold the temp. You can also add the second heater to the sump instead of the tank.

When the tank is filled I fill with hot water only. There isn't a lid on it being a cattle tank and all. I might have to fabricate one or just go buy some plexiglass

doesn't make sense that what worked before doesn't work now. especially with two heaters. maybe make sure the heaters are calibrated correctly. that is my guess. i think a lid would help doesn't really sound like it would fix the problem.

I thought those tank heaters were made to only keep the water from freezing, and contained an inboard thermostat to shut off when the water reached a preset temp.

the heaters in it are 300watt marineland not the actual heaters for stock tanks.
