in my breeding tank now it's 87ppm,do I need to put it at 80 ppm, some people said 80 is fine .but how and last night they laid eggs ,I did a small W/C this morning.how many W/C I can do when they have eggs in the tank who not hatch yet ?

TDS levels for a breeding tank isn't exactly an exact science and there certainly isn't universal agreement. At 87ppm most I think would say your level is fine. I don't really alter my WC routine when there are eggs, just make sure they are done fairly quickly so the eggs aren't exposed to air for an extended period of time and die.

I try to controle ,nitrite, nitrate and ammonia in the tank because i fed them live worms only in the breeding tank, my concern is ammonia, everything always ok with ph ,nitrite, nitrate.

If you keep up with your water changes, you should not have any bad water parameters (ammonia, nitrate/nitrite). My understanding as with Keith is 80 to 100 TDS for breeders and 125 to 150 for adults in community tank. For juvies, 175 to 225 is good as it keeps the nutrients in the water for growth.

Interesting. My TDS is near 70 for my aged tap water. How would I raise TDS if I need to do so? Can I breed successfully with TDS in this range or as low as 55?

You definitely don't need to raise it, sounds like your water is about ideal as far as TDS goes.

just to confirm, a tds of 80 is roughly 80ppm on a gh api test kit? so roughly 5 drops of gh.

thanx

A tds of 80 is no magical number that you HAVE to have. Discus can breed in water with a tds all the way to 250-300. So a tds of 80 is well below what is really needed

I bought a TDS meter and it showed a reading of 62 and 71 on my two tanks. One tank has Mopani wood in it and the other is a clean tank. This surprised me since I live in the Rockies and was expecting a higher reading. This is my aged tap with no RO added.I will test another time to confirm.

I need to get my hands on a tds aswell, but for now i have a gh and kh kit from api, and trying to figure if my 6 drops of gh, or 100ppm are to much for discus in hardness, with a kh of 3 drops about 50ppm. So much conflicting info, going to talk with a breeder today.. fortunetly my water stays pretty consistant out the tap and in the tank.. have two tanks one with africans and lots of rock, another bb qt tank.. and general hardness is around 5-6 drops ph is 7.8 kh 50ppm

sorry to thread jack, congrats on the fry

OK. I double checked my TDS today and made sure I followed the instructions to a T. The tank with my mopani wood has TDS of 82 and the tank with plain tap has TDS 67 ppm. Sounds like this is ok for breeding conditions.

Derekff is right and you Bonginator you okl with your water it's just the fish they do the thing when they want to.because my fish had fry in my community tank with a tds 387 and in my BT the tds is 70 to 81 the eggs never hatch.

Thank you for your information and sharing with me...

TDS reads more than 100 ppm will egg hatch rate much better but hardness must be very soft.

Mine water is very low level. I don't use RO unit so I stright tap water into the aging tank for 24 hours for water change for my breeding tanks.

Right now my breeding tanks TDS read 54 to 62 ppm and 110 and 130 microSiemens.

My aging water parameter TDS is 26 ppm , 44 microSiemens Ph 6.8 How could I bring TDS level ?

Thanks
