Hi, I currently have a 35 gallon with 5 3-4 inch Discus which I will be moving into a new 100 gallon tank soon. I do a 25 percent water change daily on the 35 gallon tank so the water quality is pretty good. Would there be any drawback in using some of water from the 35 gallon (and, or) moving the filter from the old tank over to my 100 gallon tank to get the cycling moving along faster? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I currently have a Fluval 305 running with BioRings and foam pads; on the new tank I have a Cascad 1500 canister.

moving the filter will help cycle.. since thats where the majority of the bacteria will be.. more so then just water from tank..

Would moving the BioRings to the new Cascade filter and running just it work just as well? Or do you suggest running both at the same time?

as long as the cycled media is running somewhere.. it don't matter.. run old filter with new filter at same time..

You have good ideas. . . . gotta be patient. Seachem makes a product called Prime that seems to be a really great conditioner & ammonia, nitrite, & nitrate remover. Check it out & let me know what you think.

Yes..I've learned that lack of patient kills (and your fish) in this hobby, but when you got the brand spankin' tank sitting right there..it's hard to wait! I use Prime in my tanks but i heard they also make a product called Safe which is the powder form...and you get more bang for your buck with that.

I read a thread where someone ran tap water straight into the tank after dosing it with SAFE..it that advisable? I guess it would also depend on the % of water that was being change.

Wow, good to know! ..That was one of the things i was worried about, were the water changes on a big tank. I've never owned anything bigger then 35 gallons so it's always been using the old school buckets with me.
