PP or salt or some other? What is the salution make up. Don't want to kill the plant obviously. Thanks!

use your PP. Just make the water bright pink and dip the plants in for about 20 mins, then rinse them well. you could also use a small amount of bleech, but the PP is safer for the plants.

I use Alum. It kills snail and it's eggs. You can get it at the grocery store in the pickling section.

That's good to know moon. Can you use that in your tank to get rid of them or is it just used as a dip? I've never heard of it before, but curious.

Here in India its very comman to use alum for water purification. My grandmother always used to use it never had any problems with water treated with an alum dip.. :-)
Old school I guess and cheap.

It is used as a dip for about an hour. I would not add it to a discus tank. I think it is Magnesium sulphate.

Will PP kill snails and the eggs?
If not, can you use both PP and alum?

Not sure if PP will kill snail eggs. Alum does.

Can you use both PP and alum safely together in the same bucket or should you soak the plants in one, rinse it, then soak in the other?

PP is an oxidiser and will tend to react with other chemicals. To be on the safe side I would treat them seperately.

That's what I thought. Thanks!

Dieter Untergasser in his book "Discus Health" also recommends Alum. I had a hard time finding it, eventually found it at a pharmacy. But I've since given up on plants. Too many confounding variables! LOL.

I don't think pp will kill all the eggs. The snails just slowly kept coming back out of nowhere. Coincidence maybe but after I used levimisol to deworm, they all disappeared for good Had I known about alum, I guess they never would have been introduced in the first place though. Gonna pick some up.

For those who don't know where to get Alum, you can get it from most South Asian Specialty grocery stores.

I know but I found it cheaper on Amazon.
I just mentioned Amazon in case others could not find it at a store so they know there is another option for them.:)

Pottasium permanganate dipping for about half an hour followed by rinsing them in tap water is enough in my view and bleach are strong and are not good. You could mix some salt with the permanganate

I use Aquasol. It is a med with a low level of copper. Copper kills snails, bacteria, parasites..etc..etc.

Growing Tissue Culture its commonly to use a 10% bleach to kill bacteria and fungi then rinsed well in water. I suppose you could also do it for your this. But any exposed parts of the plant like broken stem that area the cells would be killed by the bleach. So in Tissue Culturing they just cut that small section off the end.
