i think its a 145 gallons
my adult angels are there at the moment along with a couple of rummy nose.the discus are growing out in another tank though am not sure of putting them in here anymore as they are blue diamonds and may not go with the theme of this tank

just love the full tank shots -- that is definitely one of my favorite tanks!
sorry if I missed this.....do you have a sump? outside filtration/aeration? the water looks so calm.

ExReefer

I like the tank. Not that you asked me, but I would skip on the domestic discus in there. It just does not work. Leave it as is or go with a six pack of wild discus.

toomanyfish
08-29-2012, 04:03 AM
Thank u all for the kind comments.no sump just 3 2217's.I know its a bit of an overkill but
that's just me I love to over filter tanks!
As far as wild discus go I would love to have some browns or something in there sadly we
don't get wilds here in India and even if we do they are of very poor quality.
Still wanna add leaf litter floating plants and led's

This is an outstanding setup, very beautiful. Congratulantions. You should definetely get some wild discus. In another thread some folks are trying to organize a shipping of wild discus to India from Hudson Crizanto (Brazil). Check it out: http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?96379-Where-can-i-get-Wild-Discus-in-India/page2

I don't know how many of u would agree with me but I have 10 blue diamond discus gorgeous shape red iris growing
out in another tank.I move them in this one and add maybe a few dozen cardinals and change the light to warn white
Led's add some floating plants and leaf litter.
Waiting for ur opinions

finally moved the discus from their growout to their main tank.they took the move well...a bit skittish as you would expect...and like the right corner which is a little dark compared to the rest of the tank.a few have already fed..but a few are darker and have a bit of uneven coloring.is that normal?

shoveltrash
12-09-2012, 06:36 AM
I'm sure they will adjust in time. your tank is FANTASTIC! and I love the fact that you have stocked with a *single type* of Discus :)
look forward to more photos!

they fit right into this setup.

Well done.

Guys its just not working...they almost killed themselves today thrashing all over

damba
12-11-2012, 01:42 PM
They shouldnt do that... Can you keep the lights out for a few days and maybe add some dithers. Surface dwellets such as hatchets can be very good.

I live in Eastbourne - the sunniest place in Britain. That isn't really saying much...

Denisoni may be a little skittish for them also. I keep blue diamonds and find them pretty skittish. They have taken months to become more settled. Adding some acarichthys and geos seemed to also help mine.

I have not read the entire thread but could you measure your water parameters? Thinking an uncycled tank here. Again have not read the entire thread and jumping in a bit uninformed.

toomanyfish
12-15-2012, 01:24 PM
Nope the tank was setup 6 months before they were moved in.
What now with this tank is the question

manzpants92
12-15-2012, 01:27 PM
Out of my five discus one was a blue diamond and out of all of them he was the most skittish. Every time i would turn the light on or make a sudden movement in my room he would go flying across the tank and smash into my driftwood or sides of the tank...and all the others wouldn't. Odd to see your having the same case with your blues

Second Hand Pat

Nope the tank was setup 6 months before they were moved in.
What now with this tank is the question

Perhaps it has been setup for six months but when you moved the fish in from the growout tank you added a huge bio-load to the new tank and the BB may need catch up. Therefore a precautionary check of the water parameters is still warranted.

The 7 foot tank has 3 cannisters

toomanyfish
12-27-2012, 11:16 AM
Ok they are back in their 3 footer now..and much settled n taking food straight from the hand
Planning to add uarus n earth eaters to the 7 footer n going completely biotope
The red line barbs will be removed as well
Just met Heiko bheler and was completely inspired by his talks and will transform this tank still closer to nature

12-27-2012, 01:19 PM
WOW! That would have been an awesome looking tank there! Too bad you had to move them back.
Quite a surprise to me that there are discus enthusiasts even in India! And even the quality is wonderful.
A natural looking aquarium always beats a decorated one! Good luck!

12-27-2012, 11:27 PM
Not sure why they would be bugging out in a larger tank (Looks great by the way). Maybe some of the other fish are causing it.

The 7 foot tank has 3 cannisters
Doesn't matter how many canisters you have you can still get spikes when adding alot of bioload. Pat is right when she asked you to check your parameters.

toomanyfish
12-28-2012, 03:43 PM
Did water checks.the parameters are identical in both tanks.

Love the tannin colored water

MSD
01-02-2013, 05:41 PM
Perhaps you should try moving a few at a time into the new tank and see what happens. They should acclimate better that way.

Great tannic water. Is it all from the wood or do you dose anything (almond leaves)?
