I have just got my hands on an auto shute off device with float along with an RO storage tank. I have found the instructions for how to set this up with an RO system….however, I have an HMA filter (three stage). So, how do I set it up?

Also, just out of interest, in the RO set up, the water goes through the pre-filter, then the valve device, then the RO filter…..why does the device sit between the pre-filters and the RO and not just go before or after them all?

Thanks!

Rorie,

Probably best to post this in the "water works" section or the "Technical & Do-it Yourself" - lots of folks there can help you. Also if you could take a picture of your setup - that would be helpful.

By the way - nice photography!

On an RO system the auto shutoff valve is plumbed into both the water line going from the carbon chamber to the RO membrane, and into the purified water line. The back pressure from the float valve being closed on the purified water line activates the shutoff to close the water line going into the RO membrane. This shuts the filter down completely so your wastewater doesn't continue to run and also keeps the water shutoff to the float valve. At least that's what was explained to me.

Sorry, I've got no experience with HMA so I can't be of any help there.

The HMA setup is a simple set of filter cartridges. It lacks a High pressure side, and a Low pressure side like you have on an RO system. The auto shut off valves you're used to

require this to work.

A shut off for an HMA would be a much less complicated affair, and could consist of a simple float valve:
