I just noticed that my new red Turk, from Hans, is missing a small slice of his dorsal fin! Have any of you ever seen this, or explain this?? Will it grow back?

If it is in the soft part of the fin it will grow back. If one of the hard rays is broken that will not grow back.

I have a cobalt that looked like his fin was sliced almost completely from top to bottom. Believe it occured during the feeding frenzy that occured when i stuck fdbw to the glass. 2-3 days later and it completely healed. extra waterchanges for 5 days to prevent infection is all i did

Good clean water will give you the best chance of growing it back. Unless it's in the hard part of the fin.

Pats got the winning ticket ;) Hard rays, no repair, soft rays, beautiful growth within a VERY short amount of time with good conditions.

I would guess that the hard rays are in the front of the dorsal fin???? And the soft rays are in the back of the dorsal fin?
It's in the middle of the dorsal fin that's been damaged.

Is it split? or a hard ray broken? I believe a split should mend with time.

Hopefully you will see some new growth at the bottom of the V depending on how fresh it is. Remember that lots of WCs will promote faster healing.

I do 50% wc daily....I'll step it up to 75% and see if I can get it to heel.....thanks to all for the advise.

I found out why my Turk has a split in his top fin, when I noticed a second split in the same fin. He has a habit of sleeping under things that he doesn't fit under, thus, damaging his fins. I guess I need to rethink my Aquascape!!!!
