I have a 4-5 inch discus which has baffled me as to the type. We believe it to be a male as it has paired with a confirmed female and it did make passes after she began laying eggs. His whole body is blue, yet his fins are similiar to that of a turqoise. We think he may be the offspring of a powder blue and a turqoise, however, we are beginners, so we would prefer someone else make that determination, lol. In this picture he is tending to the eggs.

funny thing is the fish store were we bought him from had him on sale when you bought 2 juvis for 29.99 and he was in an assorted tank but it didn't list cobalt. Instead it said blu, red and green Turquoise. They said he was a turquoise cus of the pattern on his caudal and anal fins

A turk would have that pattern, for the most part, thru its whole body.74671Bad pic,but one of my cobalts.Looks simlar.

Cobalts do have the typical turq markings on their fins. Well, at least the Stendker line does and I'm assuming that other lines do as well.

Does he show his stress bars? Cobalts have the vertical barring and, if this helps, when they're juvies they have spotted or striated lines on their bodies that disappear as they grow older.

Yes, when he was young he had striated lines. When they dissappeared I thought I hadn't fed him enough nutritious food, lol. And yes, he does show his vertical bars now and then, when he is stressed.

Cobalts have in my experience shown striations/markings on fins also. They arent the solid blue/clear fins uniformally like blue diamonds

There ya go! He's most likely a cobalt discus. =)
