Thrilled to report my first pair of discus! They laid eggs in my 180 display tank but they were gone after 36 hours...so now they have a 29 BB.

Anyways, I called the city to find out my tap water is 300 - 330 TDS (tap is all I use currently). If I do RO/tap in a 50/50 ratio, will that lower hardness enough for hatching? Also does it need to be RO/DI or just RO?

Thanks,
Zack

I use RO, without DI.

RO without DI but the mix I would use for breeding would be 75% RO / 25% primed TAP

A good source (SecondHandPat) and others mention to keep your breeding tank water TDS 70 to 90. Display tank about 120/150 (if using RO water.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone, time to invest in an RO unit!

Before you invest in ro i would wait to see if they are a confirmed pair. It is not uncommon for the first batches to get eaten.
