Crushed coral?

I just added two med sized pouches in my filter of crushed coral for my 500g tank and it change the ph from 8.3 to 8.6 in less than two hrs. My kh was 2dkh and after adding the crushed coral it was 6-7dkh. I did take out one pouch for now just to see how things go. I'm hoping the ph drops a little, normal ph for the tank is 8.2. The reason I added the crushed coral is I was having ph swings from 8.2 durring the day and morning was 8.0. It's a planted tank and expect a little, but more than I wanted. The discus still look and act like normal. Am I doing things ok or am I fired?

So i'm guessing that a ph swing from 8.2 - 8.0 is fine? I know how important it is to keep things stable for discus, that's why added the crushed coral to stabilize the ph more and raise the kh, but I guess I shouldn't of.

There is nothing wrong with your PH swing. Crushed coral raises the PH.
