View Full Version : Finally Piwowarski RT pair is proven!

I sold my other proven Piwowarski RT pair to Eric a while back. Well, I got this male in a trade with Harry months back and I put him with my left over female and for months they would lay eggs and then they would turn white. Eggs were not a problem at all, and these fish are amazing parents already....never once been egg eaters. Finally tonight I can see wigglers on the cone, not many and I'm leaving for Drill this weekend so they won't last but I'm very excited. I can finally call this pair confirmed and further work with them. And if anything, I know both the Male and Female are viable if I wanted to cross out.

Female on current eggs (you can see, not to many viable ones)

Congrats. They look great (of course with your photography skills everything looks great...). When you end up with babies running out of your ears and you decide you want to test your shipping skills I am your man.....LOL.

Thanks, they look to be gearing up for another go sometime this week. I should be home and can maintain the tank a bit better so we'll see what happens.

Nice job Bro!
Just caught the thread....glad to hear it is starting to work out. Hopefully your schedule works in harmony with theirs.
The pair here have just started spawning....this is their 3rd week and they have a few wigglers this time....hoping they will get it right sooner rather than later.
Talk with you soon...

Newest batch, still getting way to many white ones. Not sure if its the male or my water at this point. The male is fairly slow at making passes, and he'll wait for the female to make a couple passes before he does one. But I think my water might be hardening the eggs to fast for them to become fertilized? I don't use RO, no access to aged water....no where to store it (Have an RO filter, just no where to store water lol). Not sure. Its sooooooooo frustrating because these would be EXCELLENT parents. They never eat the eggs, they always fan the eggs perfectly and switch off fanning duties. Would be a great foster pair if anything, but the only other pair I have is my Blue Diamonds and they are still young and exploring.

Maybe I should loan these to Eric for a while, he seems to have the touch hahaha. Well, guess I'll keep trying. I think I'll be trying almond leaves next, I have a surplus of those. Going to look for a place to squeeze in water storage, if not then I'll have to setup the RO unit at my dad's business warehouse and just cart water back and forth every few days (Plan Z).

Nice! Just saw this too

For what it's worth: my other piwowarski's are the same way
Very high number of not so fertile eggs compared to other fish
I think it's the Piwows, not the water (I have had other fish that didn't seem to have nearly as many infertile eggs)
I spoke to one other breeder who observed the same thing: small batches

Got 9 good wigglers off of this batch, very low. Going to let the scenario play out, but I'm not trying to raise just 9.

I think if you used RO water your hatch rate would go way up. Piwow fish are awesome. Good luck!

The video is coming I promise lol.

Thanks all. Don't get crazy now Pat! LOL. Trish, Eric is doing a lot more with that pair then I did, although it was my first pair to carry wigglers. Eric really brought them back into prime spawning condition.

So the 7-8 fry are still living. They are just starting to free swim, I see them jump off the cone and they seem to have a good sense where mom and dad are so far....but mom and dad want them back on the cone. Doing a WC on the tank now, since taking the black sponge filter out (airstone in)the water has gotten semi cloudy because of the slime coat, it frustrates me because i do a WC daily, but can't get all the grime out of the tank LOL...oh well guess that's the life of breeding tanks huh? Know what I need? Some white sponge filters.....hmmm time to go hunting.

Got some BBS starting as well......so much for letting the scenario play out huh? I just had to try, I know most wouldn't even mess with 7-8 fry but I have nothing better to do at the moment.
