I recently got some new Discus to grow-out and thought this would be a great opportunity for me to document my progress and share it with everyone. I selected three of my favorites to monitor their progress. I do have others and will update them also in this thread, but wanted to focus mainly on these three since they are the same size.

Checkerboard Pigeon 3.5" from Kenny/Forrest
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c145/imageher/checker.jpg

Fire Red 3.5" from Josie Chicago Discus
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c145/imageher/FR.jpg

Malboro Red 3.5" from Kenny/Forrest
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c145/imageher/MR.jpg

All of them are now in my 75g grow-out tank BB
Feeding Regime will be 4-6 times a day.
Diet: Beef Heart Mix, FDBW, Sera Discus Granules, Tetra Color Bits, Brine Shrimp, and treats Blood worms.
PH: 8.0
Water change: 50% daily and 1 100% weekly

I will update my progress once a month to see how big they will get in 7 months from today.

Are you going to measure them monthly and perhaps weigh them? That would be interesting to see charted out.

I haven't decided if I want to stress them out by taking them out to measure, but it might be the only way to really see how much they have grown every month. We'll see what I do when next month.

Video taken this morning during feeding. I have to say since starting this tread the Fire Red has grown the best excluding the larger Tefe in the tank. It's amazing how fast they can grow with good diet and water change. The growth could be because of their gene coming from a Stendker parent. Although all of them are growing nicely. Very happy with this group's health and aggressiveness to food.

1 Month Update (Picture isn't the greatest as it was taken by my android phone. I don't have the good camera at the moment)

Measurement were done by estimating their size from nose to tail by markers shown below. I pretend to feed them down by the marker and as they swim pass the marker I estimate their size.

Best growth goes to the Fire Red now at 4.25" almost 4.5". Color is showing better then the image show, but this was taken by my camera phone early this morning as they were waking up so color isn't out for this guy.

In this picture you can see it growing up in size next to the Tiger Turq who's 5"

Both Kenny/Forest's fish are all growing at the same rate now at 4"

I will pull them out to measure when their growth start to slow down.

Thanks. I'm very happy at their growth rate. They seem to want to eat more even when their stomach is full and look like it could explode... lol. They love their diet of FDBW, Beef Heart Mix, Turkey Mix (Added recently), Pro-Growth Beef Flakes, and Sera Discus Granules. I stop feeding them frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, and Tera Bit (They like the Sera better) a week after I created this tread. I went with all protein heavy diet. It seems to be paying off.

The two brown are Tefe. Two of my strongest eater and are 5.25" already. I got them at Quarter size from Chicago Discus in April. I will have to post some good pics of them when I get the good camera back.

What is that in the right side of the tank. Is it a soda bottle with bio media or something?

It's a 1 liter water bottle with K1 Media aerated. The good bacteria that builds on the flowing bed of K1 media helps keeps my tank crystal clear.

Two Months Update

Can't believe it has been almost two months since I've been tracking my little guys. Of course during this time I had to sell some of my stock and two were from this group that I was keeping track off. Here are the two that I've kept. Fire Red at 4.75-5" and Marlboro Red 4.5-4.75"

Video of them and their tank mates during feeding. (Switch setting to 1080P for better viewing)

Update

No growth update but just some recent news on my part.

Both first are growing great but the reason I wanted to update is that I just found out the Fire Red is a Pigeon red as they got mix-up by the breeder, which explains why the white saturated white patterns were coming in for it.

Here's a video of their tank mate. The Ring Pigeon are 5.5-6" so my two guys are getting up there in size. (Switch video to 720P for better viewing).

Also I wanted to add these new Juvies I recently pickup from Chicago Discus. Wasn't planning on picking up any more juvies to grow-out but I just couldn't help myself to grow out some blue strains.

Blue Diamond + Blue SS. (Anyone know how this mix will look like as adult and what it will be call?) Size range from 1.5-2"

I think i will start calling it that to get the name established pointing back to a great breeder in you... :D

Nice looking group and juveniles look good too.
Thanks... looking forward to see them grow... They eat very well and will grow fast... water change twice a day with 50% in the morning and 100% at night for a total of 150% WC per day... doing thing different from when I grow my Tefe...

Just what I was hoping for... Blue Scorpion are the strains I want... From my batch of 6 looks like two may be BD and the rest will have patterns which should turn out to be Blue Scorpion.

I though I share this video i made of my Chicago Blues juvies eating FDBW w/spinach. They are growing fast. One is already 3" while the rest are 2-2.5". At three months old they are growing at a very good rate. Anyway Enjoy the video!

BTW, Pigeon Red is almost 5.5" and the MR is 5" will have pics and video of those two at a later time.

Thanks Eddie. They are growing fast suck that they are only getting 1 feeding a day this week while I'm out on a week vacation. Hopefully they will grow more when I get back and start their normal 4-6 feeding schedule.

Updates

Did WC last night and decided to measure the biggest guy of my new group of juvie. To my surprise he is almost 4".

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c145/imageher/992D594C-C2B3-4833-AE4D-39F03A2E6EC5-14705-0000079751E27D01.jpg

The rest of the group is avg about 3". Very happy with their growth so far, especially with me on vacation most of this month only able to feed them 1 feeding a day.

Updates to my Chicago Blues, MR, and Pigeon Red.

It's been 4 months since I've gotten my Chicago Blue from Josie and they are growing very well. The biggest fella is a little over 4.75" and the rest are 4-4.5". Video of the little guys in their new 75 gallon home.

I started out with 6 but one is a runt and I move that guy over with the adults. That runt is actually growing very well with the adults. It has actually out grow some of the smaller one in the 75g.

As for the MR and Pigeon Red their growth have slow especially the MR from Kenny. Pigeon Red is still growing and is almost 6". the MR is still 5" and hasn't shown any growth since the last update. Their colors are starting to show nicely. Here is a bad pic of them last night after WC.
