Hi, I have a female blue diamond pairing up with a nice large leopard male. What will be the outcome?

Depends on the genetics of the leopard, but you shouldn't get any BD out of that batch. Mainly leopards and possibly some turq throwbacks. Really hard to say without knowing the quality of the leopard.

Thank's Eddie,
In quality you mean how pure in genetics, or just how beautiful is the leopard? I no it is a very nice spotted leopard form tony Tan.

Yes, how established/strong the genetics are. I'm sure its top quality if its Tony Tans.

They have laid eggs in my showtank, its bin there for 2 days than the clean up the eggs. Next week i will give theme their own breeding tank and hope the male is a good genetic fish.
I love leopards so i hope everything works out fine.

Sorry it took a while. I have to put theme all but 4 to sleep. They all had problems with there fins or gillplates. My fold for sure didnt have time to make sure the waterquality was good.
The good news is the parents have about 100 wriggles on the cone ready to go freeswimming about tomorrow morning. I have better hope for this batch because the water quality is better now.
The first batch were mostly leopards i think some blue diamonds and some snakeskins:D
Thanks for watching i post pictures soon.

The wrigglers getting closer en closer together now. Some are swimming to the parents already.
Pic's are a bit of a problem because the parents are very agressive. So i will wait a few days till i think it's alright.

Under the tank is a eheim external filter.
The tank is divided in two by a white filtersponge en 2 piece's of glass. The inlet of the filter is on the right, outlet on the left. On the left side is also a airstone so there's plenty of oxygen in the water without to much water movement.

These pictures are taken yesterday so 20 days old.

I have a quick question. you said 1/3 are SS and the rest are 9 barred. From the pictures it looks like at least some of them are barless BD's. I only ask because I am trying to work out the genetics that only give you 1/3 SS. I know you sold most before you could really tell what you had but what were the number of SS, 9 barred, and Barless?

Thanks.

-john

dennis waage
04-09-2013, 03:12 PM
Hi John, I had 50 babys. there were about 34 nine bars and 14 ss. There were only 2 fish were i did not see any bars from te start but they were sold in the first selling round. De bareless you see on the pics above do show 14 bars from time to time but they are more vanishing now they get older. Do you no if bd show any 14 bars whene they are small?

John_Nicholson
04-09-2013, 03:18 PM
if the fish that appear to be BD are carring the SS gene they should be blue scorpions when grown. It is just odd that they appear so solid at this size. I went back and looked at the pictures again and see what you are talking about. Now I have to figure out how you only got 1/3 SS. Some weird genetics or just a one time abnormality?

The question is were the barless fish really barless or did they have bars, just not very prominent?

I no my bd female do have some snake in her. Its a strange fish anyway. sometimes she looks like an ocean green (really yellow fins) at other times she is a nice deep colour bd and some times she has some red in the fin on here back. Maybe thats wat cousing the strange genetics. I have bought miself a nice tank 400 liter so i can keep all my babyfish till they grow out. So next time we will see wat happens.

Very nice looking fish!

And from the pair, the BD does not look like a blue diamond. More of a BD throwback and you can see the SS pattern in the edges of the fins. They threw some very nice fish.

Thank you all. I will take some more pictures later today.

I am trying to breed showquality fish.

Is it possible to breed some showquality fish from a not showquality pair. They don't have to be grand champion, but good quality fish that will do ok in championsships. Do i need to have 1 of the pair to be showquality or really both parrents must be showquality.

Of course you can breed show quality fish. The line of the fish is merely the given genetics and you control the outcome. You'll have to decide on the category for fish like these since you kind of have a mixed bag. You might be able to enter an open class with the nine bars and the solid class for the snakeskin (scorpion). It can be tough to win a solid class with a scorpion but again, its all on how it grades in the other areas. A completely solid fish will likely get higher points...because it's totally solid. ;)
