Does anybody know the reason for my pair to eat their healthy 2nd day free swimming fry? batch of fry was about 30-40pcs then male started eating them. Hope someone could explain and advise me, thank you

They might not have thought the spawn was large enough, and are ready to go again. Also can depend on how mature your pair is.Sometimes they need a few times, even 5-6 to get it right.

They were not doing any mating rituals which was why i wondered how come they ate the fry

You can try a foster parent or raise them artifically, or let them eat 'em and hope they grow out of that behavior,

You didnt say how old/long youve had them.If new/young,might just need to grow out of.

Just give them a little time. No need to be in a rush. Most pairs eat a fair number of fry before they get it right.

the pair is around 10 months oldThere you have it.My one pair I thought had it right at the sixth spawn, and then ate them at week six.It was a very small spawn, though.

May just be a young pair. I agree with John, let 'em have at it for awhile & see if they don't work it out.
You can always screen the eggs as well, but best to have them work it out.
