Bummer Frank, sorry to hear about the jumper. Otherwise everyone looks fabulous in the fry tank!

Re: A Pleasant Surprise!
That's too bad Frank and such a shame, but it happens...sometimes they find themselves through the smallest of gaps. Pitty it wasn't the one with the damaged gill plate though.
They're looking really good, and growing nicely.Leave a comment:

Re: A Pleasant Surprise!
Thanks Tom. Just take the photos and show them to your pair. Tell them, get busy!

Serious note, I agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s been a joy and a love. When you love something the “little work” becomes no burden at all.
Usually raising fish for me is a little work but I am missing have discus fry in my fish room .
The pair did all the hard work ..Having the discus fry I did was a joy and pleasure to witness..I miss seeing it happen but take solace in watching yours .
2 months is when you know you and your fish did something special IMO .They grow fast and that is just so rewarding in my book .
I guess my pair realized it and are just relaxing now and eating eggs ?
I feel my others are maturing and soon they will be teasing me .Leave a comment:

Re: A Pleasant Surprise!
A Wild. I will not let a pair form between the domestics and the wilds. I don’t think they will.
There is a question whether the one he is hanging around is a female. We will see how things go. It is my understanding that Wilds are seasonal spawners. Of course, I can be surprised.

Re: A Pleasant Surprise!
Thanks Joe. I appreciate your comments. I will wait until the week the 12 are due to depart. Shape, color, and varied size will guide me in that order. I will have 9 left - 8 plus one with the damaged gill plate.
Looking really good Frank. You've certainly done a great job with these, and i'm sure they will ALL turn out to be very nice adults. I wouldn't be in a hurry to pick your final eight, and would wait as long as possible. I wouldn't get caught up in picking the largest eight fish, but more so make your decision on shape and color. It wont be easy, but im sure everyone will get good fish.
Glad to hear your male is on the road to recovery, and i hope he picks another mate and get you thinking about another batch soon.
Good luck....its been fun to watch the processLeave a comment:

Re: A Pleasant Surprise!
I am comfortable to say, "I am thrilled with these babies!"
I am estimating that they are ranging 1.875 inches & under at this point.
I am thankful to say that I have commitments for 12 of these fry for pickup within the next weeks. They will be going to good homes. So, I will need to start the painful selection of the 8 to keep sooner rather than later.

Re: A Pleasant Surprise!
Quick update. The male is back to health. After preventative meds, I placed him back in the main tank. He's now bossing the others around, eating, and mingling with the other seven. He is allowing one of the females to hang around his "territory." No courting but maybe in the winter? Who knows?
Hope to post on the fry. Nothing has changed. Still eating and growing.
