Tiger Turquoise
Howdy SD fam.
There now appears to be a pair of very nice tiger turks in the 10 discus I recently acquired from Dan. They hung out a lot, and to be honest thought they might both be male from their physical features. 1 definitely so.
The day before yesterday I came home in the morning from work and the 2 were right up at the water surface and low and behold 1 was laying eggs right along the water line and the other was watching closely and making lose passes. Hmm, well I guess 1 is now definitely female. The beginnings of a possible pair.
The eggs were gone when I woke up in the afternoon, as expected, w the pressure of 8 other discus in a 36” tank.
My questions are;
- are TT genetically manufactured (a cross of sorts) or simply a line bred fish to arrive at the vertical striations?
- has anyone here ever bred and raise fry from TT”s?
- do they breed true?
Breeding and raising discus is a time consuming undertaking, and I’m not there yet, but I realized recently that the thing that gives me the most satisfaction in fish keeping is the challenge and joy of breeding and raising fry. I get bored quickly of even the most beautiful and interesting species without this dimension.
